TOOL GUIDE · JSON FORMATTING
What the JSON Beautifier does
The tool uses the browser’s standard JSON parser to read objects, arrays, strings, numbers, booleans, and null. If parsing succeeds, it serializes the value with two spaces of indentation, line breaks, and structural spacing. Its job is to improve readability—not to infer a schema, validate business rules, or determine whether an API will accept the document.
Formatting changes whitespace and may normalize how parsed numbers are written. It preserves the parsed JSON value for ordinary safe values, but exact number spelling and precision-sensitive integers deserve special care. Keep identifiers with long digit sequences as strings when their exact characters matter.
How to use it
- Open the workspace and select JSON Beautifier.
- Paste a complete JSON value into Raw input.
- Review Instant output and the status message.
- Check important fields, then copy the result only after you are satisfied.
Example input: {"service":"FormatInstant","active":true}. The output expands the object onto multiple lines without adding or removing its members.
Common JSON errors
Standard JSON requires double-quoted property names and strings. Comments, single quotes, unquoted keys, and trailing commas are not allowed. When an error points to a location, inspect the characters before it too: an earlier unclosed string or missing bracket can make a later token appear invalid. Reduce a large example to a small failing fragment if the cause is hard to locate.
Syntax is not schema validation
A syntactically valid value may still have a missing required property, the wrong data type, an invalid date convention, or a value outside an application’s permitted range. Validate the output against the actual destination contract and test with representative, non-sensitive data. For related help, see the JSON formatting article and FormatInstant guides.
Privacy note: the transformation runs in your browser and the tool code does not send the input to a FormatInstant processing server. Your device, extensions, network, and hosting environment are separate from this formatter.
